Fieldtrip Guide-Teacher

One thing that is very unique from the University of Tsukuba SEA-Teacher Pilot Program is the holding of an excursion with us as the field trip guide teacher!

Field-trip teacher guides are basically teachers who lead and guide field-trip groups. In this field-trip there are six groups with each group consisting of six students from various countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Mexico.

We explored various places in Ibaraki Prefecture such as Ibaraki Kasumigaura Environmental Science Center, Mount Tsukuba, Ibaraki Historical Museum, etc.

The purpose of the field-trip is to enrich students' insights and understanding of the uniqueness, excellence, and resources available in Tsukuba in order to create a promotional model for the University of Tsukuba in the future.

The things I learned from this program are:
  1. How to manage students with different cultural backgrounds in one group.
  2. How to convey information effectively to students.
  3. How to ignite student curiosity and correlate field-trip with learning in the classroom.
  4. How to improve group dynamics and create harmonious learning groups.

I also learned various cultural treasures and resources in Ibaraki from this activity. It feels very nice to meet a variety of interesting spots that are also closely related to science.
